The 1 day Bwindi gorilla tour from Kigali is an exceptional short Uganda gorilla trekking safari. This gorilla trip is perfect for all enthusiastic primate lovers intending to enjoy up close and personal moment with a family of endangered mountain gorillas in the wild. It includes departing from Kigali to track mountain gorillas in the lush tropical rainforest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Bwindi is a UNESCO site lying in Southwestern Uganda and is largely composed of a tropical rainforest. Within this extensive 331sq.km park, there survive over 120 mammal species which include more than 459 endangered mountain gorillas; chimpanzees, baboons, elephants, buffaloes and other mammals.
Bwindi NP also supports other diverse species including 200 colorful butterflies, 350 bird species, 324 tree species and more. Gorilla trekking is Bwindi National Park’s iconic experience and 20 groups of mountain gorillas have undergone through full habituation process. These are all ready for trekking and the adventures begin from the 4 regions; Ruhija, Rushaga, Nkuringo and Buhoma.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali-Bwindi for gorilla trekking & depart
Set off in a 4×4 safari vehicle to Bwindi and your journey will begin very early in the morning. You drive up to the border point between Rwanda and Uganda that is Katuna which leads you to Kabale and is ideal if you intend to connect to Buhoma/Ruhija sector. Or cross via Cyanika border to Kisoro, perfect for those of you with plans to visit Rushaga or Nkuringo gorilla groups in the Southern side of Bwindi National Park.
On arrival at the park offices, get briefed about the guideline to be observed while trekking with Bwindi gorillas. The actual trekking adventure with Bwindi gorillas begins at 8:00am after you have been allocated a gorilla group. One gorilla group is visited by a maximum of 8 visitors and this is done on a single day.
This thrilling adventure lasts for 2-6 hours and includes one hour for you to be with gorillas taking pictures and observing how they behave plus their exceptional body gestures. After, you will begin walking back to the park offices to meet your driver guide and from here, connect back to Kigali.
